Ava is incredibly smiley these days. She has started doing this "fun" thing where she wakes up, smiley and ready to play, at 3 AM. It takes all of our strength to stop ourselves from playing and singing with her! She smiles when she wakes up, she smiles when she sees us, and she smiles when we talk and sing to her. Lately she's even started smiling when she hears the clicks of her crib mobile winding up. It is a wonderful thing to see. :)
Ava has also figured out how to get her fist to her mouth! She gets really excited about this and will chew on her hand forever. So far she really only does it with her right hand -- a righty already? This is so exciting for the psychologist in me because it shows such great growth in her coordination and motor skills. We've also started teaching her to hold a rattle and shake it. She doesn't quite get it yet (and we have to use a soft rattle because more often than not she whacks herself in the head), but it won't be long before she gets the hang of it.

She is also starting to notice Lucy more, which is funny. She doesn't seem to mind one bit when Lucy sniffs her or even licks her.
She loves to do "airplane" with daddy. She actually prefers to be carried out like this -- she is so nosy and wants to see the world! I can't wait until she has full control over her head/neck so that I can start putting her in my wrap facing out.

Finally, Ava is really starting to have great control over her head and neck. She hates tummy time, but I read that some babies like to do it on a big exercise ball. We happen to have one of those sitting around collecting dust, so we starting trying tummy time on it. She doesn't love it, but she doesn't seem to mind it as much as laying on a blanket or the boppy. She's getting really strong!

She is also becoming incredibly independent. She coos and "talks" nonstop and really interacts with us now. But, she doesn't really want to be held -- instead, she loves to be laying down on her back and look up at us. I think it is because she has a great view of us this way, plus she can wiggle around and kick her legs. She also loves to lay in her crib or pack-n-play and watch anything that spins. This mobile (with rainforest animals) is her favorite -- she will "talk" to her friends for a good 20 minutes!
