In other news, Ava has been diagnosed with reflux. About a week ago, she started acting like she was in severe pain several times a day when she would eat. She would start gulping her bottle as if she was starving, then, after a few gulps, she would spit it out and scream. She would arch her back, clench her fists, and squirm. Then she would start wheezing, as if she couldn't get enough air. She also spits up like crazy. It started to happen more and more often, so we took her to the pediatrician on Tuesday. He confirmed that he thinks it is reflux. We added rice cereal to her bottles (to weigh down the formula a little bit to keep it from coming back up as much) and a low dose of zantac to help with the acid. Since we have only had one or two episodes of discomfort, and they were mild in comparison to her previous episodes. Fingers crossed that the treatment continues to work!
