11 Weeks and Sad News

We found out yesterday that we lost Baby B. Unfortunately this is just something that happens, and it is more common than people realize. It is called "vanishing twin syndrome," and is thought to occur in 20 to 30% of all twin pregnancies and up to 50% of all assisted ovulation pregnancies. There is a great article about this syndrome here if you're interested.

The good news is that Baby A appears to be thriving. He/she made 14 days worth of growth in just six days and is now measuring a day ahead. The heartbeat was 167 bpm, and he or she was kicking and waving throughout the ultrasound.

While we are very sad about this discovery, we are grateful for our one, healthy baby. We understand that this was probably the best thing for the health of Baby A. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
